Destinations from Meissen, Dresden to Prague

Just 30 kilometers away you will find Dresden, Saxonys city of art and culture, which offers numerous sightseeing possibilities such as the world’s famous Frauenkirche (women’s church), the Zwinger, the Grünes Gewölbe (green vault), the Albertinum and the Semper Opera House. Take the paddle steamer on the Elbe to contemplate the famous baroque town silhouette as well as to discover the romantic Pillnitz Castle and the elegant villas.

Down the Elbe you can easily reach the picturesque old town of Meissen via urban railway. Meissen is especially known for its fine porcelain creations and invites you to visit the late Gothic Albrechtsburg castle, the historical birthplace of Saxony. You can also just stroll along the beautiful old town. Go and taste the famous wine of Meissen in some of the various and nice restaurants or directly on the vineyards along the Saxon Wine Route.

The Sandstone Mountains with their picturesque eroded sandstones extend on both sides of the Elbe river from Pirna in the northwest toward the Bohemian city of Děčín in the Czech Republick in the southeast. The Bastei, the fortress Königstein and the natural stage of Rathen (built into the rocks) in the National Park of Saxon Switzerland are just a few tips for a varied day trip.

Only a few kilometers away is the neighboring country of Czech Republic. The next town is Děčín one of the most beautiful cities in the Czech Republic. It takes you only about an hour to go to the “golden city” Pragues, whose beautiful city center is classified as UNESCO World Heritage.
